Tobi Fibicher’s “I’m free – and I can!” campaign uses educational puppetry to teach children about individuality, inclusion, and the freedom to be themselves. Through the story of the living puppet Tim, Tobi helps young audiences explore courage, empathy, and self-acceptance in a playful, age-appropriate way. Together, they’re shaping a future where every child learns that being different is something to celebrate.
I'm free - and I can!
Tobi Fibicher launched “I’m free – and I can!”, an educational campaign using puppetry to inspire inclusion, self-determination, and acceptance among young children. Through the story of a brave living puppet named Tim, the project empowers kids to make their own choices about who they are and who they love, nurturing confidence and empathy from an early age.
For many children, messages about identity, diversity, and queerness are often absent or misrepresented in early education. This lack of representation can reinforce stereotypes and silence authentic self-expression. “I’m free – and I can!” aims to change this narrative by meeting children where they are through play, imagination, and emotional storytelling. By combining education and art, Tobi Fibicher opens up a world where children learn that difference is not just accepted but celebrated.
At the heart of the project is Tim, a living puppet who learns to stand up for himself and choose his own path. Alongside friends Lulu, Sid, and Mae, Tim’s journey invites children to reflect on themes of friendship, courage, and personal freedom. Through performances, discussions, and interactive sessions, Tobi and Tim create safe spaces in schools across Europe, where children can ask questions, explore feelings, and discover the power of kindness and individuality.
The campaign also supports teachers with resources and coaching, helping schools integrate queer education into inclusive curricula. With in-person visits and online access, “I’m free – and I can!” ensures that every child no matter their background or identity can learn in an environment that values openness, respect, and love.
More than just a performance, “I’m free – and I can!” is a movement for early empowerment and acceptance. Through educational puppetry, Tobi Fibicher gives children a voice, showing them that being yourself is not only okay—it’s something to be proud of.
